All GCSE courses now require each student to submit two pieces of coursework; one targetting the Using and Applying Mathematics strand of the GSCE and the other involving a Handling Data task. Now, whilst each task demands a willingness to work around a particular problem and a little independent thought, the main problem for the majority of students remains one of writing the final reports. Within this page I have therefore placed a few documents which I hope will assist (particularly with the Handling Data task) any student when working upon their coursework. These include background notes and examples of completed tasks etc. I do not include any practice exercises / tasks as yet, since students are better off obtaining these from their teachers. |
| Notes on the Handling Data task. >>>DOWNLOAD<<< | This 4-page document gives some background information (including basic mark schemes) on the Handling Data task and a basic list of do's and do nots! | |
| A glossary of statistical terms. >>>DOWNLOAD<<< | This 3-page document lists many of the important statistical terms along with their meanings. It is vital that students use correct statistical terminology in any written task. | |
| A discussion of discrete data. >>>DOWNLOAD<<< | This 6-page document explains what is meant by discrete data and demonstrates how to graph and analyse such data. | |
| A discussion of continuous data. >>>DOWNLOAD<<< | This 8-page document explains what is meant by continuous data and demonstrates how to graph and analyse such data. | |
| An example of a completed Handling Data task. >>>DOWNLOAD<<< | This 11-page document shows a complete statistical project from beginning to end. I would claim that this is of grade B standard. |
