The nxReport Core Module has been successfully tested on Windows NT 4 (with service pack 6), Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 and comes in the form of a Windows 32-bit Dynamically Linked Library.

Bindings are currently available for the Powerbasic and Purebasic programming languages, meaning that users of these languages are able to utilise the Core Module's extensive OOP api. With the forthcoming scripting component, however, reports will have the ability to contain full coding modules which will in turn enable applications to simply 'execute' a report without making recourse to the OOP api. This means that any programming language able to call simple dll functions will be able to leverage the full power of the Arctic Reports system without requiring a binding. Please see the roadmap page for more details.

The Pyrex Visual Designer is supported only on versions of Windows from XP onwards.

The Arctic Reports system currently only supports GDI printers. Support may be added for old style 'character code' printers at a later date (if there is sufficient demand).

Data-sources.
Reports created by the Arctic Reports system can use as many different data-sources as required.

In addition to 'custom data-sources' which allow developers to effectively utilise any data-source for which the developer can provide the required code, Arctic Reports currently supports the following types of source :

  • SQLite databases requiring no external libraries etc.

  • ODBC sources (providing the client machine has the appropriate ODBC driver installed)

  • OLE-DB sources (providing the client machine has the appropriate providers installed).

More sources will be added in future upgrades.

With the ODBC and OLE-DB sources, the developer can of course make use of just about any of the major database engines. However, with ODBC and OLE-DB, the client machine(s) must have the appropriate drivers/providers installed before the underlying source can be accessed. Some of the most common providers are installed along with MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Components) which is bundled within the more 'recent' versions of Windows (XP onwards).  Whilst testing on Windows NT 4, however, we did find ourselves having to manually install MDAC through Microsoft's website before one of our demo programs would run. This was painless however.

"...I'm amazed with this reporting tool. After using it for several days it's very easy to use even without the designer... Its really a great addition to our system."
-Jose Claro Jr Villalon

"I´m so thankful for this engine. Almost every important report in my division is now made with the Arctic Reporting suite!
Example: we needed for the documentation of our quality management (EN ISO 9001) Adobe, Word, Excel and Visio. Now the whole documentation is made with a few reports, one database and only one application. ...I even use it successfully with SAP"
-Marco Reinsbach

A Free Report Viewer is Available For Quick Viewing of 'Snapshot' Reports - reports not requiring any data-sources to be shipped! A very secure way of exposing your company's reports for general consumption.
